MCKESSON SHARED SERVICES ANNOUNCES 200% GROWTH AS NHS ORGANISATIONS MOVE TOWARDS A SHARED SERVICES MODEL

June  26, 2009

-McKesson is providing ‘One Stop Accountability’ HR & Payroll management services to
over 107,000 people in the NHS-

McKesson UK, healthcare IT solutions and services specialist, today announces that McKesson Shared Services has seen a 200% growth in customers in the last twelve months, winning 10 out of 11 contracts in open tender. McKesson is the single most prevalent provider of HR & Payroll services to the NHS, and is now supplying its shared services to more than 107,000 members of NHS staff.

McKesson Shared Services has exclusive knowledge of the end-to-end process within the NHS gained through experience in delivering the Electronic Staff Record (ESR). As guardians of the ESR – the world’s largest HR and Payroll system – McKesson is recognised for its expertise and accountability, which is reflected in the vast number of Trusts that have turned to McKesson to help them eliminate inefficiencies in workforce management through shared services. These tasks are often critical but time-consuming, and can be managed more effectively in terms of practicality and cost by a specialist outsourced services provider.

Andrew Burrage, Payroll Liaison Manager at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust who have been a customer of McKesson Shared Services for two years, says, “Since McKesson has taken over our payroll and pension service delivery they have worked together with the Trust as a team and we have seen improvements in service delivery and accuracy as result. We see McKesson as a key partner in payroll management moving forwards."

In the Operating Framework for the NHS for 2009-10, NHS Chief Executive David Nicholson announced that the NHS needs to plan in recognition of the funding levels it is likely to receive over coming years, and highlighted the proven value of shared services. McKesson enables HR and Payroll managers to maintain control over workforce management while having more disposable time to devote to efficiency-focussed activities, with the peace of mind that a specialist provider is supporting the rest of the department.  Further, in today’s economic climate, it is somewhat reassuring to know that McKesson Shared Services is an entirely UK-based operation.

Adrian Wookey, VP Service Delivery of McKesson UK, says, “We are uniquely positioned to help the NHS eliminate these time consuming manual processes, drive productivity gains, realise cost savings and re-deploy staff to value added activities by utilising our centralised approach to managing the day-to-day functions of HR and Payroll.  The growth of McKesson Shared Services is a positive result for the company, and this past year’s success has further exemplified that our customers recognise McKesson as a natural partner in workforce management.”
